Yasai Chen pursued his higher education in Japan, obtaining his Doctorate in Journalism from Waseda University in 2016. Prior to that, he completed his Master’s degree at Waseda University in 2010, further cementing his expertise in communication and media studies. His undergraduate studies were at the Communication University of China, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in 2008. This strong academic foundation in both Chinese and international contexts has shaped Yasai’s approach to communication research. His doctoral research focused on the influence of network socialization on media reporting, and his Master’s thesis explored the role of social media in shaping public opinion. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for his future career in academia and research, where he continuously explores the intersection of digital media and health communication. Yasaiโ€™s education has equipped him with both the theoretical knowledge and practical research skills to tackle modern communication challenges.

Experience

Yasai Chen began his academic career as a Lecturer at the College of Humanities and Communication at Shanghai Normal University, where he worked from 2016 to 2018. His academic journey advanced as he became an Associate Professor in the same college in 2018, a position he held until 2019. During this period, Yasai’s expertise in media and communication flourished, particularly in the fields of health communication and social media. From 2019 onwards, he joined the Film-Television and Communication College at Shanghai Normal University as an Associate Professor. His experience was also enriched by his time as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Missouri, USA, in 2019. This international exposure helped broaden his research scope, particularly in community risk communication during health crises. Yasai’s years of teaching, research, and collaboration with global institutions have contributed to his development as a leading scholar in communication studies, with a focus on media’s role in public health.
